'Across the Island' is maybe the toughest MTB experience in the Island and in order to avoid inconvenience and increase the fun, everyone should be adequately prepared for the event. The following is a general guide of what the organization recommends to athletes.
A bike in excellent working condition serviced and tested at least 2 weeks before the event. Special care must be given to the Fork (and shock). A camel bag with a 1.5 - 2 ltr bladder and a bottle with electrolyte drink should be carried within the race.
The athletes attending should be fit in order to enjoy the scenery. This might be a race but it is designed to give the best possible MTB experience in the Island with the most scenic forest areas. So enjoy first and compete later!!!
Even thought the bikes might be ready for the race, mechanical failures could happen due to faulty parts or hits from rocks, and ruin the fun. This is why it is advisable that athletes should have in their luggage (not everything listed needs to be in the camel bag) the items listed below:
- Spare Drop hanger (camel bag)
- Spare tires
- 2 Spare tubes (1 camel bag)
- Bike cleaning Kits
- Chain connectors (camel bag)
- Brake pads
- First Aid Kit (camel bag)
The organization offers free basic Mechanical help in order to assist athletes so if something goes wrong and you do not have the skills to fix it do not worry. You are in good hands!!! In case you need extra parts a price list will be posted shortly with the exact type of parts that will be offered with a discount from RRP.
